In industrial pure water equipment, circulating water systems, and chemical filtration equipment, large flow filter cartridge, also known as high flow pleated filter cartridge, are the core consumables for security filtration. The most concerned issues by most enterprises' operation and procurement personnel are the lifespan and replacement cycle of the filter elements. If the filter elements are replaced too early, it will increase the cost of consumables; if not replaced in time, it will lead to an increase in pressure difference, deterioration of water quality, and even damage to RO membranes, precision equipment, and other downstream components. So, how long can a large flux filter cartridge generally last? This article, based on mainstream conditions, provides standard replacement cycles and judgment criteria.
I. General reference for the lifespan of large-flow filter elements
Under normal conditions, the lifespan of industrial standard high flow water filter cartridge is much longer than that of traditional melt-blown filter elements. In conventional scenarios where water quality is up to standard and equipment is running stably, the replacement cycle of large flow filter cartridge is generally 1-3 months. In pure water preparation systems with clean water and low impurity content, the lifespan can be extended to 3-6 months; while in pre-treatment scenarios with more impurities in the raw water and severe pollution, the filter element wears out faster, usually requiring inspection and replacement every 2-4 weeks.
Unlike ordinary filter elements, high flow pleated filter cartridge, with their folded large-area filter material design, have significantly increased pollutant-capturing capacity, effectively reducing the hassle of frequent replacements and greatly reducing equipment downtime and labor maintenance costs.
II. Core factors affecting the lifespan of filter elements
There is no fixed and unified lifespan for large flux filter cartridge. They are mainly affected by three working conditions. The first is the quality of raw water. Groundwater and municipal tap water have fewer impurities, and the filter element wears out slowly; rivers, industrial wastewater, and water bodies with more sediment and colloids will quickly clog the filter pores, shortening the lifespan. The second is the flow load of the equipment. Long-term overloading of water flow will accelerate filter element clogging and cause rapid increase in pressure difference. The last is the filter element material. PP material is suitable for regular and normal water quality and temperature, while PES high-end filter material is more corrosion-resistant and temperature-resistant, with stronger stability and a longer service life for high flux filter cartridge.
III. Comparison table of standard replacement cycles for various industries
Pure water equipment industry: As a pre-filter for reverse osmosis, the water quality is clean and stable, and the regular replacement cycle of large flow filter cartridge is 2-3 months, which is currently the most compatible and stable scenario.
Chemical and circulating water industry: Water bodies with trace impurities and precipitates from chemicals, high flow water filter cartridge are prone to accumulation and blockage, and it is recommended to replace once every 1-1.5 months to ensure the smoothness of the circulation system.
Municipal water supply and sewage pre-treatment: The impurity content of raw water is high, and the high flow pleated filter cartridge saturates with pollutants quickly, requiring inspection and replacement every 3-4 weeks based on pressure difference changes.

IV. Judgment criteria for early replacement
In actual operation, there is no need to mechanically apply fixed replacement cycles. The pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the filter is the core and precise indicator for determining the working condition of large flux filter cartridge. When the difference in pressure between the inlet and outlet of the filter is greater than 0.1 MPa, or if there are abnormal phenomena such as a decrease in water flow rate or turbid water quality in the system, it indicates that the filter holes of the high flux filter cartridge have become clogged and the pollutant absorption capacity is approaching saturation. In such cases, the equipment should be stopped immediately and the filter element replaced. Moreover, if the equipment is idle for a long time, the high flow water filter cartridge will get damp and bacteria will grow, which can easily cause secondary pollution of the water body. Before restarting the equipment in such conditions, it is recommended to directly replace it with a brand-new filter element.
Summary
Under normal conditions, large flow filter cartridge can last for 1-3 months, and in high-quality pure water conditions, high flow pleated filter cartridge can last for up to half a year. Enterprises do not need to mechanically apply fixed cycles. Based on industry scenarios, the quality of raw water, and changes in equipment pressure difference, they can dynamically replace large flux filter cartridge, which can maximize the performance of high flux filter cartridge, strictly control operation and maintenance costs, and continuously ensure the stable and efficient operation of the entire filtration system.
